Stable Build 3.0.3

There is a newer forum build than this one. See the forum index for details.

Welcome to 3.0!

New in 3.0.3

  • Fixes rare issue that would cause infinite sync for some files.

New in the 3.0 series:

  • Rewrite of the Windows & Linux UI (1)
  • File identifiers (2)
  • Windows long path support (3)
  • New Linux headless setup flow
  • Updated splash screens
  • New Finder icon overlays
  • New Windows notification area icons
  • New black and white Mac menu bar icons (4)

Issue on RHEL and CentOS

We are aware of an issue that prevents Dropbox from running for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS (version < 7) users. The symptom of this issue is the following:

$ dropbox status
Dropbox isn't running!
$ dropbox start
Dropbox isn't running!
Dropbox is already running!

We are working on fixing the issue, but the following is a temporary work-around:

killall dropbox
rm ~/.dropbox-dist/dropbox-lnx.x86*/libxml2.so.2
dropbox start

Issue on Ubuntu 10.04

If you're having issues starting Dropbox on Ubuntu 10.04, please ensure that you have the package libx11-xcb1 installed:

sudo apt-get install libx11-xcb1

Notes

  1. This UI rewrite helps us fix a large number of issues/glitches you have reported over the years, improve performance, support high DPI on Windows, a new setup wizard on Linux, and more!
  2. File identifiers enable Dropbox to detect when files have been moved and renamed. In the future we'll be able to use this to improve features such as Previous versions. For now, this change should be invisible. Let us know if applications working with files in your Dropbox start interacting differently.
  3. While Dropbox on Windows now supports paths longer than 260 characters, many applications such as Windows Explorer and Microsoft Word do not.
  4. We now have just one set of menu bar icons on Mac which are black and white. These icons fully support Yosemite's dark mode.
  5. On OS X 10.10 Yosemite, context menu items outside of the Dropbox folder are not supported. This means the "Move to Dropbox" context menu item is not supported. This is due to a limitation in Yosemite's Finder Sync Framework.
  6. After updating to 3.0 your CPU usage may temporarily increase while we pull down some new metadata for each file in your Dropbox. This is expected behavior and the CPU usage will return to normal once all of the metadata has been retrieved. The amount of time this will take depends on how many files you have in your Dropbox, so in some cases it can take multiple hours if you have a large number of files.

For those curious, the metadata is being used for the File identifiers feature (see (2)).

Re: Stable Build 3.0.3

Fixes rare issue that would cause infinite sync for some files." -- That should say "CREATES rare issue that would cause infinite sync for some files." Win7 x64. Rolled back to 3.0.1 - fixed.

Edit: We synced up w/ Ewen and confirmed this was an intermittent issue unrelated to this version.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.3

Not all shared folders (web) shows correctly in Finder (No indication on folder), but are apparently synced correctly.

Working well on Fedora 21.

Hi Ewen,

It looks like you may have hit an intermittent issue unrelated to the build. Would you be willing to try the build again and see if the issue persists?

Re: Stable Build 3.0.3

Hello

I have this kinda annoying bug for quite a long time now...

I am on Windows 7, and I have enabled "Auto-hide the taskbar" option

But when I receive a notification from Dropbox, such as when a file has been added, and I dismiss the notification pressing "X", the taskbar stays visible. This does not allow me to access the bottom part of every screen (like the download bar in Chrome).

Weird thing is that when this occurrence happens, the taskbar automatically hides again when I receive a second notification from Dropbox, and I dismiss it again.

This issue only happens when I dismiss the notification. When I do not dismiss it and let it disappear itself with time, the issue is not present.

I hope the Development team will have a look at this issue. It would really improve my user experience.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards.

Re: Stable Build 3.0.3

Im running Debian Jessie, and dropbox just auto-updated to 3.0.3

I have regular (approx ~30sec per minute) instances of 100% CPU usage by dropbox. If you need any logs or so to figure out what's going on, please let me know. For no I'll go back to an older release.
