I had an issue upon installation of this version (settings were forgotten).  I would also like to see the release notes.  Why haven't they been provided?

Any chance of the .deb file.

I did this on my Ubnuntu 18.10 laptop

cd ~ && wget -O - "https://clientupdates.dropboxstatic.com/dbx-releng/client/dropbox-lnx.x86_64-79.4.143.tar.gz" | tar xzf -

but nothing happened.

Sorry, this worked. ~/.dropbox-dist/dropboxd

What are stable and beta builds?

The stable builds are for the Desktop client, which is regularly updated with many improvements and fixes.

A beta build is an early release feature that is subject to these additional terms.
