Re: App marketing and discoverability

App marketing and discoverability

This is an App Marketing related question but I'm posting it here as this is the only section I can find targeted to developers. Please point to a suitable section to post such questions in future. If not there, why not make a section devoted to App Marketing?

If I develop an App for Dropbox:

  • What features for discoverability are there so that Dropbox users find it. For example, where is it listed and are there any features like keywords to find it?
  • If I do my own promotion, for example, adwords, can I use a phrase "for Dropbox" in the ad? This is quite similar to "for Windows" which is permitted in Adwords without any problems.

Dropbox doesn't offer a general app listing like that exactly where users can browse API apps, but I'll pass this along as a feature request. (There is a page that highlights some Business apps though. If you think your app would be a good fit for that listing, please contact our business development team.)

You can find the guidelines for branding and marketing your app in the developer branding guide.

If you don't need to link more than 50 users, you don't need to get your app switched to production, and can just keep it in development mode. It is technically possible to link up to 500 while still in development mode too, but note that there's a time limit on that. You can find more information here:

In any case though, whether or not your app is in production, make sure your app complies with the terms and guidelines:

I have one more question in this regard. Didn't post a new question because you still don't have a separate section for App Marketing questions.

Question: I will be making a dropbox Web App as an additional facility for my own Desktop App for which I already have customers. Can I start charging for this Web App in the Development status which will be accessible only to my existing customers?

These customers are initially going to be much less than 500 in number. And as far as I can see, upto 500 customers are possible even before applying for production. In fact, initially I'm only going to invite some 50 customers who will pay for this. Does it sound OK or are there any gotchas?

Thanks.

The advanced search option like business email address search will allow you to discover corporate email addresses and contact names in your B2B leads database - https://getprospect.com/b2b-contact-database once you have entered the company name and email address. In addition to further information such as phone numbers and physical addresses, you would have the option to choose this option. Before continuing, though, be certain that the e-mail address is real. If the e-mail address has been in use for more than a few years, it is possible that it is not real.
