Disable Dash for new tab in Chrome

I installed the Dash extension in Chrome (MacOS), but now a new tab displays the Dash homepage, rather than the old page I had selected. How can I disable the Dash homepage for New Tabs in Chrome?

Hi James,

Dash looks like a promising product, let's face it, this kind of application for AI is only going to grow, so it's easy to see why it has your focus.

I think what I and the others on this thread are saying is - yes, Dash is awesome and it is something worth using, it's valuable, it's cool that you want to encourage efficiency etc.

But what you're missing is that you can't know how Dash fits into users' lives, workflows, use cases and priorities and you might not want to impose your vision on them. None of those things are up to you to know, or make decisions on. Let users choose how they use it, this prescriptive strategy is probably not a good one, and... by the way... you're missing out on all the metadata about how people would actually use the tools in practice - if you gave them choices.
Efficiency is always going to be user and case-specific, leave that to us, we know what to do - Dropbox can focus on making the tool efficient to use instead of the take-over bid on what is probably the most important and frequently-used app on any device anywhere in the world. Not all browsing sessions are Dropbox ones.
Many thanks.

If you right-click on the extension, choose "manage extension" you can toggle it off on the top right of that window. Then just turn it on again when you need to use it.

So this tells me to.... to what?  Reach out?   I've done that and I understand you are grateful.  You are welcome.  Now, if it wouldn't be too much to ask, can you publish instructions for removal?  If not that, some kind of clue where we might go to find those instructions?  By instructions for removal, I mean a series of clearly defined steps that, when followed, result in Dash being gone.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you for my time.

I have stopped using Drop Box for the present.

In oh, a couple of weeks or so, if I don't get an actual answer to the question everyone in this  thread is asking, I will uninstall Drop Box.  There are other ways.  Pity.

I Totally agree it is very annoying and even more annoying is that Dropbox haven't come up with a solution - Why do I pay them so much each year if they can't answer a simple question

Dash was a good idea but for now at least Dash - disabled

I am amazed at the vacuum like absence of solutions or responses.  I have uninstalled the add on and shall now proceed to ignore the Dropbox Community.  Nothing personal, I like message boards--and apparently that is all this is.  In answer:  I  disabled it in the using the add on button...but I'm using Brave.  It's Chrome based, but not Chrome.  Anyhow, it popped up again so I uninstalled it... so far, so good.  It's a waste of my time and I don't recall signing up to be a beta tester.

I REALLY don't want to get rid of Dropbox, but I am looking for an alternative now.  This silent response and "pushy" add on add up to a very bad sign.  I see it as "writing on the wall" and the Powers That Be don't seem interested in erasing anything.

It's been fun for a few years, but I'll replace it with sneakers and wear and tear on the car if I have to.

Hi Everybody,

Dash can be uninstalled like any other application, which depends on your operating system.

To disable the Browser extension:

  1. Click on the "Extensions" icon to the right of the URL bar
  2. Click the 3 dots (or lines) next to Dropbox Dash, then select Manage Extensions
  3. Scroll to the bottom and click Remove Extension
  4. Confirm removal of Dash in the pop-up

To uninstall the macOS Dash Desktop app:

  1. Quit Dash
  2. Open "Finder" in the bottom left of your dock
  3. Navigate to Applications
  4. Drag the Dash application to the trash, or right click and select Move to Trash

To uninstall the Windows Dash Desktop app:

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel by searching for Control Panel via the search box on the task bar
  2. Select Programs > Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program (depending on your settings and version of windows)
  3. Find Dropbox Dash, right click, and select Uninstall

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Ben

Well, fixing it would have been nice, but I suppose this is better than totally ignoring the problem.  I removed it months ago...but as I said, making it work would have been better.

Thanks anyway, Ben.
