Allow Users to Leave a Shared Dropbox Paper Document

Currently when a Dropbox Paper document is shared with you it's impossibe to remove yourself from it. Not only this, but all others that the document has been shared with can see your email address. This is a privacy leak.

This is shameful.

Not for right now? Took you over a year to arrive at this status and you’re going to blow it off? This is not okay. I dropped using Paper over this. At this point, you can just dump the tool.

Found my way here after googling "How to remove myself from a dropbox paper share".

Shocked to find that that not only is this not a feature in Paper, but that people have been asking for this for years including many many multi-page threads in the community section. On one of those threads an (apparent) admin pointed at this "ideas" part of your site and said "go there".

So I come here, and what do I find? Zero interest from dropbox in implementing a feature that people have been asking for, literally, for YEARS.

That's remarkable. It means that someone can fill up your dropbox paper view with documents that you can't get rid of. The suggestion of archiving sounds "OK" until you realise that when you do this it also says "archived for X other users" as well.

That's insane.

I'm a software developer, professionally for 24 years now. Been writing software for far longer though. I've been building network systems and web systems for most of that 24 years (and before).

On no level does this attitude from dropbox make sense.

It's a basic security feature to allow users to remove themselves *as well as* owners to remove themselves.

I'm forced to use this tool at work, and was considering using it for more things at home, but given this insanity I won't be doing so until this is fixed, and will reccommend against it at work too - for these reasons.

Actually, looking at the listed of declined features in dropbox paper is a great list of feature ideas for someone else looking to build a competitor to dropbox paper.

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-Paper-ideas/idb-p/101002012/status-key/declined

After all, most are features asked for by several people - and given how difficult it is to find this, that's a good indication of how much people care.

Been thinking about making a pet project and dropbox paper would not be particularly difficult to replicate...

If you ever need a Node/React dev, hit me up, lol. I'd love for a better version of this to exist, even if I have to make it myself.

This request mirrors one made by Carwyn, on 07-06-2020, which was recently closed.

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/Allow-Users-to-Leave-a-Shared-Dropbox-Paper-Document/i...

Furthermore, *that* thread was in response to another unresolved one from 2017.

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-files-folders/Dropbox-Paper-leave-a-shared-document-or-folde...

This need still exists, and still constitutes a security and privacy hazard.
