Can we have the Table of Contents always on within our Paper docs?

Can we have the Table of Contents always on within our Paper docs?

I found existing posts asking "can I make Table of Contents always display?", with the answer "no you can't." I couldn't find a way to easily add clear "+1" for "I really want this feature", so I'm making a post.

(I guess consider the actionable question here more like "I'd like it to be easier to register disagreement/unhappiness when a Paper Question's answer is 'it's supposed to be this way'")

I get the value of distraction-free writing. But I use Paper as a tool to conduct meetings with my team. The documents quickly get quite long, and I'd consider it very important to know that other teammates can see when I've added another section header, so that they know they can contribute to that portion of the discussion. (Whereas if there is no Visible Table of Contents they're more likely to duplicate discussion in different parts of the doc)

Hey there @Raymond A.2  - thanks for using Paper!

First and foremost, thanks for reaching out with this feedback!

We're always looking for ways to improve Paper, and I'll make sure your comments are passed along to our dev team as a feature request for an option for a consistent/permanent 'Table Of Contents' within Paper docs.

In the meantime, you could leave a comment on the section you'd like to mark for others letting them know about it so as to avoid duplicating discussions.

I know it's not much but I hope this helps to some extent Raymond!

On a side note, I moved your post under Paper's 'Share an Idea' section so other users can upvote it too!

Let me know if you have any additional feedback or any questions; I'll be happy to follow up.

With the current Paper, when I move the cursor away from the left panel, it 'auto-hides' the section headers (i.e. table of content) by showing a column of horizontal lines (each one representing a section) instead. I find the horizontal lines (even with their varying lengths) ill-suited to letting the user know which line represents which section - the user still needs to mouse-over the lines to see the section headers to select the correct one.

Please provide a way to

1. Toggle whether to show or hide the left panel's section headers. If the left panel is set to hidden, it should not take up the left vertical screen space.

2. Show the section headers instead of horizontal lines

This still isn't possible.  You can click on a header to make it visible temporarily, but as soon as you start typing in the document it hides itself again.

The left navigation pane with the folder, list of documents and the "+ Create New" button means a lot of horizontal space is wasted and it is interfering with usability, especially on small screens with extra-wide elements like tables in the document. The navigation pane does collapse/disappear by itself when the browser window is made narrower, but often not soon enough.

Suggest to add a button to make it collapse so the user has a choice.
