Will Dropbox Paper for web consider support offline mode just like google docs in the future?
Offline mode for OSX with Touch ID. And you can throw out all your other notes apps and diaries
Hoping this idea is being worked on. Offering offline functionality has speed benefits too:
With google docs, it seems to sync a bunch of files offline - so when I open them in the web app they open a lot faster than Dropbox paper. When my internet is slow, paper takes some time to open files as it first connects, downloads, then displays. Docs just displays them, and updates them later once it connects to the internet.
Definitely need this. Because I experience few times that the network is not stable in the Caltrain and the paper is not able to use.
Please have "Make Available Offline" for dropbox paper on desktop clients.
I love dropbox and dropbox paper, and have been a Pro user for years, and briefly even a Business user. Today you very nearly lost me as a customer through sheer acute frustration. You're a great company so I am being patient, and trust you will be able to fix this.
There was an internet outage and despite it being "right there in front of me" I couldn't work on my document on Mac OS. If I was editing a text backed-up on dropbox this wouldn't have been an issue at all... why should Dropbox Paper have *less* functionality than dropbox itself?
FWIW, Having to perform a complex merge of document versions would be preferable to suddenly losing any ability to edit, access, or even export the document. e.g. while on deadline, e.g. due to a power surge. (Of which I expect many this summer, as power companies are short staffed with covid-19). You could make this an opt-in feature we have to enable? Please?
Do we need to pay more for this feature? I'd be happy to, but it is needed. Yes, I'm aware of the available offline features for mobile; some use cases require desktop.
Please allow paying custoomers to access at least *some* version of our documents at all times, even on desktop. I truly do not want to choose another service, please do not force my hand.
Upvoting this since it is really important to me.
I was working on a document a few minutes ago on the desktop app and it just lost my conection (it says no dropobox account found - even tough my internet connection is fine). I'm really losing time with it.
Please make the desktop app work with offline files!
Paper is an amazing tool for taking notes in a meeting, or at a conference.
However, I'm not currently using it.
Why not? Because I'm often at a client's office, or at a conference, without a reliable internet connection. I simply can't take the chance that my notes will become unavailable during a meeting.
It would be perfect if Paper had the ability to work offline, cache the data, then sync when an internet connection becomes available.
I'm actually surprised this isn't built-in already - Dropbox were the original pioneers of online/offline file syncing!
I would be very happy if creating a new paper file in the dropbox app would open the new file in the dropbox app ans save it also offline.
I was told as a response to a support question that the Paper mac native desktop app is currently in Beta. I was wondering if anyon in this discussion has seen it, and if so, if they can share any insights in terms of what we can expect.
I asuume off-line support will be part of it, and hopefully the navigation tree.
It would really be a gmae changer for me if they introduced broader support for tags.
Looking forward to finding out more if it can be shared. Any insghts into timing will also be appreciate it. Thanks. m.
Also, can the Mobile version have a better offline mode?, having to toggle off Wifi and cell data just to have the app use the cache is quite clunky, plus it dosen't seem to cache all the docs on a reliable manner
@hashRaygoza Absolutely agree with your comment. And as @eric-downes commented above, if it's a matter of funding, I would hapily pay some extra USDs in my subscription for a more robust and complete Paper experience - that includes:
Maybe Dropbox needs to consider user-funded features. But do it before someone steals their customer base.
I love the product. It has trasnformed how I work (I had been paying and using Evernote for many years before). Making this my go to platform will require a little more work from Dropbox. Hope someone is listening o the other side...
