Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.

Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.

Hi

A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

Not sure if this workaround would help anyone but I just create a we link in my space to paper files and pin the weblink. Specifically I use this when I create a timeline in Paper.

Is integrating Paper and Dropbox a dead issue? It would appear that after 6 years of hearing that it is imminent, that integration is just never going to happen. And the problems that the lack of an integration create become more claring every day. Bummer.

@Bob R.4  it was supposed to happen in 2020 😄

I haven't seen an update on the Dropbox 2020 rollout for existing customers.... any insight, @lukeyo ?

Same for me. I asked to support to have an ETA for Paper 2020 rollout and they gave me a general answer saying they are in progress and that the work should be done in the next few months. They said the same 6 month ago. Probably the naming "Paper 2020" was not so appropriate.

I would love to have the ability to drag documents into a folder on the left side directory bar just like Google Drive.

There are quite a few users (e.g. academic users, researchers, coders), I imagine, who have an external editor they like to use (e.g. sublime or emacs or some markdown editor) and also a separate primary work environment (e.g. emacs org-mode). I'm one of those users, using emacs and org-mode for most of my work. (I keep my files with Dropbox, of course, wink wink).

I also enjoy using dropbox paper because (1) It's easy to open and start writing, and (2) it's easy for people to read, and (3) the document interface is lean and without the feeling of a full editor, like google docs, which I immensely enjoy and appreciate, and (4) at least for me, easy LaTeX and drag-and-drop or copy-paste image import (e.g. taking a screenshot, copying it to clipboard, and simply ctrl-v-ing to screen) are really important.

But it's also a bit odd that these documents only lie in Dropbox web interface, and they need to be exported (to .md or to .doc) in order for me to view or edit on another offline editor.

It would be great if (1) there could be an actual location on Dropbox -- a folder -- where the most current version of Dropbox paper documents can be synced to (preserving their original folder and file structure), and (2) optionally, if there could be an export option to .org files, or some seamless sync with .org files, this would be awesome.

My example workflow would be:

1. Have a brilliant idea, during a meeting.

2. Quickly open Dropbox Paper, and write a bunch of notes with figures and LaTeX (awesome!)

3. Later, when I have more time, using my editor (emacs), I can open this document from an actual Dropbox folder (synced to my computer).

  - Ideally, this would be an .org file, or an .md file at the least,

4. Edit it using my editor,

5. Then, later, when I need to (1) make quick edits, or (2) give a presentation, or (3) share this file with someone, I open this same document on Dropbox paper and take these actions.

Any updates to this?

I've had to move on from Dropbox Paper to Evernote for document collaboration. The years of hearing "it's in the pipeline and will be rolled out soon" has left me realizing it's never going to happen.

Last post 2016 - Is there a solution to this yet?

Hi, I'd like to revive this thread as there is currently still no solution for all Dropbox users. I was told about a year ago by Dropbox Support that the capacity to create or add Paper documents in Dropbox folders was in fact implemented en is currently available, but when I asked why I didn't seem to see the option, I was told that there was a technical issue with the older Dropbox accounts for which it was not made possible yet, but that this would undoubtably be resolved at some point. In the mean time I've seen many new features and integrations being added to Dropbox, but this issue still remains.

Dear Dropbox people, can you please make it a priority to make this feature available also to the older (and very loyal) Dropbox users. Thank you!
