Sidebar folder navigation menu for Dropbox Paper

Helpful | Level 6

Hi, I would really appreciate it if you guys make a sidebar navigation menu that users can show or hide with a click of a single button. I have a lot of notes and often need to be able to quickly switch between them with a single button click rather than going one level up to the page with all my folders, waiting for the page to load, then open the folder, then open the note I am looking for.

Hope there are enough people who would also benefit from such a feature. Thanks

Here's feedback as to why I keep switching back and forth between Notion.so and Dropbox Paper for writing docs. There's a key feature in Notion that Paper lacks.

Why I head over to Paper when writing: The commenting system is superior. Notion's comments are hidden and lacking in good UX. So when I need someone to review something, I go to Paper. Also, when I'm in need of a minimal tool for writing Paper feels the easiest to get started with. No feature bloat or distractions.

Why I head over to Notion: Their use of documents within documents is brilliant. I can design a document as a "home base" and link to "sub documents" from it. This means I can create all kinds of linked documents without getting lost. They also display all of these interlinked documents as collapsible menus on the sidebar. Easy to find.

I can also drag and drop documents inside of each other from the sidebar.

In Paper, I get lost. I'm looking at a sea of documents and folders and don't know what's what. I often feel overwhelmed trying to organize things.

And while I can link between documents in Paper, the experience just isn't quite as intuitive as having documents within documents. I can create really unique workflows for myself this way.

Here's an example use case of a document as a "home base":

You can use this to create a team wiki or FAQs. The use cases are endless.

I think if Paper had a similar doc-within-doc system or improved doc management/organization it would win me over right away.

Hey there @lilro - sorry for the slightly tardy response. How are you today?

I am writing to thank you for your invaluable feedback!

As we are always looking for ways to improve Paper and its current set of features as well as how they're implemented too,  I’ll make sure your comments are passed along to the Paper's dev team for future consideration.

If there's anything else I can do from my end to help, please let me know and in the meantime, keep those creative ideas flowing!

Any updates on this? One of the primary reasons i couldn't fully switch from Evernote to Dropbox is the difficulty with navigating through files fast.

Hey there @Mohammad A.9 - I don't have an update to share on this for now, yet, as we're always looking for ways to improve Paper, I’ll make sure your comments are passed along to our dev team as well.

If there's anything else I can help with in the meantime, please let me know.

Hey there! Just writing to second her feedback on the organizational structure of Paper. I believe if we had this doc w/in doc feature as a sidebar, or however Paper would want to add it, new teammembers will have a much easier time navigating through our company's DropBox Paper Account.  I think this is something you should truly consider.

Thank you!!

I agree.  Better doc/folder structure from within the actaul editing space would be a god send!  Similar to how the 'Table of Contents' is currently displayed on the left-hand side... but folders or nested a document structure instead.

This would allow Paper to be used as a proper notebook!

Would love to see this so I can move everything from Evernote across and collaborate within my business.

If Dropbox Paper had navigation like Evernote or Notion, for me it would easily be an Evernote killer and be at least on par with Notion. But Paper is even better for writing than Notion, so it really has the potential to be Notion and Evernote combined. That would be so awesome.

Really disappointed about the progress of this side bar idea.

We tried Notion,Slab, and Slite. Current we are adopting Slite(after wrote about 1000+ Dropbox Paper, our team already lost in these docs), but the doc feature is no way compare to Paper.

Really want Paper have this sidebar feature and it's so easy to be a Pro Plan Converter for teams.
