Dropbox paper - link to file rather than embedded preview?

Just started playing with paper.

When I click on the "+" sign to create a link to an Excel file in my dropbox, Paper inserts an embedded preview (which takes up a lot of vertical space) rather than a link.

Is there a way to show only a link?

My question is similar to Greg & Anny M.

In some cases, I don't want the embedded preview of the document like this:

But I would like to see embedded just the bottom, that is

Sem título2.png

Greg & Anny M., if you just want the link, a possible solution is to paste the link and after Paper inserts the embedded preview you cloud just delete the prev

Re: Dropbox paper - link to file rather than embedded preview?

Hmm, that's not what we're seeing. Here are the steps I perform:

1) Click the + sign

2) Choose Dropbox

3) Pick and Excel file from my Dropbox

After choosing the file, I get the preview, no link at the bottom.

If I navigate to the file in Dropbox to grab the URL, I have a simple path reflecting my local Dropbox structure, not the encoded path you are showing.

Any ideas?

Re: Dropbox paper - link to file rather than embedded preview?

You're right.

I'll explain some cases.

Method 1 (The one in your message): This is the default way, clicking the (+) button.

But, as you say, you'll only get the embed preview without any link. There's no way...

Method 2 (My original suggestion):

Step 1) Copy the Dropbox LURLINK: This is very important. You probably copy your folder path.  But you need to copy the URL link got from the some Dropbox platform:

  1.  Dropbox Site: Clik on "Share" button and select "Copy Link" or "Send Link..." dropbox-share

  2. Dropbox Desktop: in your Desktop Dropbox folder right click on the file and select "Share Dropbox Link". This will copy the URL LINK.

Step 2) Paste it into your Dropbox Paper Document and wait for the preview (as if you used the (+) button)

Step 3) Use your keyboard arrows to select the embed preview and delete it. (keep only the URL link)

This way works the way you want it.

Hi,

for youtube videos, I found that if you use a shortened URL (using a URL shortener, in my case an extension for Firefox) and paste that URL on Paper, it will paste a link, not the embedded video. I like that.

Best,

Hector

I found that if you indent a couple of spaces before pasting a link url it doesn't translate the link into a preview.

It would be nice if there was a preference to turn this off as it's quite annoying if you just want to remember links in your notes.
