Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.

Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.

Hi

A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

I agree. I was thrilled at the thought of being able to place my Dropbox Paper docs into my existing Dropbox folders. I came to the forum because I couldnt figure out how to do that and am quickly learning why! This just seems like it should have been a part of the original release to allow Dropbox work cohesively.  It's been a year since the original post, I hope this is something the Dropbox team is considering fixing soon.

Yep, dealbreaker for me.
On a project we like to have everything in one place / one shared project folder.
Anything else doesn't make sense.

Off to find another solution.

I'm pushing for my company to drop Google Drive in favor of Dropbox, and Paper is a huge +  ... except  for the fact that we need to maintain seperate-but-equal folder structures for stored files and collaborative Paper docs for each project, and tell staff to reference both places for all the information they need to know. It's kinda a UX fail — this is a workflow annoyance on a daily basis.

Honestly, decoupling Paper (i.e. Advanced Notes) from Dropbox (a cloud file location to store things... like Notes) is just plain idiotic.

Even if it's not housed within the Dropbox location, we should be able to create some kind of cloud organized link structure between them.

If I'm in a Paper Folder, allow us to link that with a specific Dropbox folder. If I'm in Dropbox and want to create a note to go with the organizational structure... I should be able to link it.

Right now, I have to go inside Paper, manually download the Word Version (only option?!) and save the **bleep** thing manually.

I love Dropbox, it's why I've invested monthly income to do so... but this is short-sited and idiotic for such a great cloud services company.

INTEGRATE YOUR IDEAS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THEM!!!! It's like rule number one of programming design. If it's not functional... why spend money and time on it?

I love Dropbox Paper but I think it needs to be an intigrated part of Dropbox. As it stands right now you can't add Paper files to your dropbox folders, they live in their own section of dropbox. Being seperate makes things very inconvenient when I'm working on projects trying to look at my to-do list and try to access my files. To me Paper should be more like a viewing platform, similar to how Dropbox handles viewing a PDF.

Just chiming in here with the need to store Paper notes in the Dropbox folder system. I was honestly suprised that this wasn't a possibility from the start, it seems obvious that users want to do this for the simple reason that you want to be able to store every type of content concerning a certain topic in one place. I'm very happy to read that the Dropbox team is actively looking in to this, and hope it will become available in the not too far future. Other than that I still love Dropbox 🙂 (My whole life seems to be on Dropbox.)

I'd like to add to this that the Paper app can of course continue to exist even when the integration with the Dropbox folders is done. I'm sure that qui some users are almost exclusively using Paper, so for them it would make no sense to have to switch to the Dropbox app.

Glad to see this discussion bc I was going a little batty trying to figure out why I couldn't *move* the doc I created in Paper into an existing folder. I tried out Paper for the first time and created a doc to share with my writers critique group and when I tried to place the newly minted document into the group folder I was like... WTH?! Geez, that was a let down.

I guess I'll just do a work-around and export the file, save it and then upload back into our DropBox folder. A very clunky solution at best but I sure as hell don't want to recreate the document.

Pleasepleaseplease make it possible to move Paper docs into existing DropBox folders. I see a ton of potential here. The fact that it remains separate is quite a glitch in the usability of Paper (I love DropBox overall btw--I've been a longtime user... since it was released to the public!) Here's hoping you guys at DropBox can improve Paper's usability by integrating it effectively w/ DB. Oh... and while you're at it please make Deletions and/or Edits to Section Elements more obvious in Papers' design ;).  I look forward to an updated release. Once you do that then we'll ALL be in business. Thanks!!

I wanted to chime in on this, since I had come to the forum to post about a similar issue. I would definitely use Dropbox for everything if Paper documents were included in the regular DB file structure. For example, in Google Drive, I can right click and hit New Doc/Sheet/etc. right there in any folder.

I like having docs mixed in with my other files because it's so much better organization. If I had a Dropbox folder named Project One, not only could I keep my images/assets there, but my Project One Paper notes right there as well. The separation of main DB folder structure from Paper docs makes things very cumbersome and not very intuitive.

To be honest, I don't really see a need for a separate Paper section at all. Personally I would just like the "Create Paper doc" function available in any folder.

I also wanted to add, like a few other users here, that I'm attempting to push my workplace to Dropbox, but little missing features like this still keep us using Google Drive.

The Paper UI is really great and is an enjoyable writing experience, so I'm hoping it will become much better integrated into the main DB file system. My dream would be to use Paper offline for docs too! As a web designer the UI feels so much more 'natural' to me than a typical word processor.

Agreed with the above. Would love to move team to mainly using dropbox/dropbox paper instead of gsuite.
