[Feature expansion] Document Tags

The tagging capabilities at the moment are mostly based on searching for a specific piece of text, e.g. #business. I would like to see this tagging feature developed a bit further, as it is exceedinly useful for organising documents within folders.

By clicking on on a #hastag, you can bring up the search for that tag. You can then add more tags to this search. However, if you have multiple documents that meet the criteria it gets difficult to scroll through all the matching documents in the little search drop down. I'd love to see this search ability expanded to full screen (if you press ENTER/the search button) to make filtering by tags easier. This would also allow you to sort those documents by date etc.

It would also be great if suggestions came up once you started typing a #. Suggestions based on other hastags used in that folder. For example, I'd start typing #bus, and it would have a little dropdown suggestion #business which can be selected by pressing ENTER.

Is it possible to use tags against files?

No

I have tried it but dropbox does not seem to transfer the tags. I suspect it is because the tags are not kept within the file itself. But I really don't know for sure. Hopefully someone that knows will respond.

What part of "NO" didnt you understand Eddy?

The correct answer is YES. At least it works where both parties are connected with the same ID and Password. My problem is with a friend that uses her own ID and password but where I have shared a folder with her. I will do more experimenting later to see if that is a restriction in dropbox.

I hardly consider that a resounding YES.
.
Sounds more like you are syncing the metadata file also.

Tags work just fine with dropbox. Reason is because the tags are just a part of the file and dropbox does not discriminate. I originally thought they were not syncing but that was because I had setup the share wrong.

Our organization moved to Dropbox about six months ago. And one feature people keep asking for is the ability to tag files and then to retrieve files through "search by tags." This would be a great feature to enable teams to create and quickly identify files associated with a project.

How can I easily cross-reference multiple scientific articles that I filed with a folder on Dropbox?

Super User II

Not with Dropbox no.

Personally I like the 'Papers' app
