500 MB vs 1 GB per referral in older account with existing referrals

It says here: https://help.dropbox.com/accounts-billing/space-storage/earn-space-referring-friends

that I can get 500 MB per referal if using basic account and 1 gb per referal if using Plus/Professional.

I already have 16 GB from referals when I started my basic account so my question is - if I upgrade my account to Plus/Professional and get another 32 referrals, will I get additional space so my free spaces rises to 32 GB or I have to recreate a new account and start from stratch to achieve this since I already have 32 referals from which I have achieved my current 16 GB of free space.

Thank you

At 16 GB, you've already reached the maximum number of referrals you can earn. Even if you upgrade, you can't earn any new ones. However, when you upgrade, each referral you have will double from 500 MB to 1 GB each, for a total of 32 GB. When you later cancel the paid subscription, your referrals will be halved back to 500 MB each and you'll be back to 16 GB.
