A referral of mine was deemed suspicious. Any ideas?

A referral of mine was deemed suspicious. Any ideas?

New member | Level 2

I sent a referral to my youngest son and he installed Dropbox on a computer that I had given to him.   The computer was previously mine I admit but I signed out of Dropbox.   The computer now belongs to my son.   I think this must be a "normal" practice in most families and I don't see why the referral should be classified as suspicious.   How do I prove to Dropboxthat my son is really using the Dropbox account he setup due to my referral?

Hi @jsiojo; welcome to the Dropbox Family!

Our system uses a number of mechanisms to check for users who abuse the referral system and, at times, it can produce false positives. This is possibly because your son didn't install the desktop app on a unique computer (meaning that it never had the desktop app installed) since you were using it before him.

That being said, as this would require some account specific information to troubleshoot efficiently, I'd suggest getting in touch with our support team through this form via an incognito window while NOT logged into any account so we can assist further.

Please make sure to input an email address we can reach you (preferably your account's email address) and provide as much info as possible.

I hope this gets resolved for you soon!

I have sent a referral to my sister and she installed Dropbox on a computer that I had given to her. The computer was previously mine thought the OS was reinstalled.  The computer now belongs to my sister. I don't see why the referral should be classified as suspicious. How do I prove to Dropbox that my sister is really using her Dropbox account she setup due to my referral?
