Can AD security groups be used instead of user groups for team folder access

Explorer | Level 3

I'm considering using Team folders in Dropbox to replace our on-premise file server.  After reading through the Team Admin guide along with other documentation via Dropbox, one thing is not clear to me.

When using the AD Connector, my understanding is that it only works for provisioning of accounts & SSO.  Can it also be used to make AD security groups available to use for the Team folders that I would be creating for our departments within our organization? or will user groups that grant access within Team folders need to be done via Admin console on Dropbox.com?

Thanks for getting back to me, @A-CAST

You can choose to sync Active Directory group with your Dropbox Business team, but to grant access to the team folders, you'll have to use the Admin Console to manage them.

I hope this helps!

Hey @A-CAST, thanks for checking in with us.

In general, to limit access to a team folder, you'll need to set up groups via the admin console.

However, if you'd like additional help setting up the AD Connector for your Dropbox Business team, you can reach out to our identity management partners.

Hope this helps to some extent!

This doesn't really answer my question.  You said "In general, to limit access"...well, that's a bit confusing. I understand that user groups are used to control access to Team Folders, but my question is:

Can AD security groups be used instead of user groups for giving access to members on Team Folders?
