Cannot free up space

Freed up space down to 1.2GB but still showing over limits 7.9 of 4.75.

MacBook pro, iPhone and online all still show over limits...

Removed shared files and restarted, no help. Any suggest?

Now I've moved ALL files out of my dropbox folder to a different folder. Signed out of the app on the MacBook. And went online and deleted ALL files. So the trash is quite full, but that does not count is my understanding. (?)

So my dropbox online is completely empty. And the problem is resolved. Now one by one I will check the folders on my MacBook for size and see which ones I want to put in dropbox again, beginning with the shared ones. Then will restore these online from the trash.

Needed to free up the space because of downgrading from pro to basic.

Try a restart of Dropbox.

And where are you getting the 1.2gb from?

Hi Mark, thanks for the response. I've restarted dropbox on my MacBook a number of times and have also restarted the computer. No change.

I'm aware of the shared folders problem. The biggest shared folder I have now is only 350MB and a few others that are much smaller in size. So the 1.2GB is 70% non-shared folders and generic files such as pdf's.

The apps folder is 89mb.

Note that you cannot use the folder size counter on your Mac to get the size of the shared folders. Thats because your machine will stop syncing as soon as it goes over quota, however, the folder online will continue to grow.

The page you need to follow www.dropbox.com/account THAT is the accurate size of your Dropbox account.

Yes, I've checked online as well. Same problem. With a pink bar on top advising me to upgrade.

You need to delete more then, or leave the shares and delete the folders.

That page is correct.

The properties menus on your machine isnt - as syncing has stopped by you being over quota.

It would really help if the online folders/files showed size as well.

What I learned from this: once dropbox is over limits and stops syncing the only way to clean up and make room is online.

It's still a mystery which file(s) were causing the overflow.

You cannot restore shared folders. You need to request to be re-added to them.

And you are right. Trash does not count towards quota.
