Cannot log into my old account

Cannot log into my old account

New member | Level 2

I had an account under my email from a while ago. I didn't get any emails saying that they were deactivating my account and now suddenly it seems like my account was deleted? It let me remake another account with the same email but I know I had an account with this email because I have old emails from Dropbox. Was my account deleted and why wasn't I warned?

Hey there, that sucks if your files and account were deleted! I myself didn’t know about this account deactivation pllicy. There is some information on this page saying that after 12 months of inactivity, your files will be deleted 30 days afterwards. If you make a ticket and contact dropbox they might be able to see if it is still recoverable depending on when you were last active on that account (as simple as signing in)

Edit: dropbox should have given you a warning email though! If it wasn’t too long ago that your account was deactivated you might still have some time. Also double check that your email is correctly typed in, for example any gmail email addresses can have a period vs not and still receive emails to the same account. I.e. user.name.example@gmail.com vs usernameexample@gmail.com will both get emails.

Good luck!

Super User II

Dropbox do send emails - multiple in fact, but, sometimes ISP's block them and flag them as junk I'm afraid.
