Compromised account? When I signed into my account recently it looks very different, any ideas?

Hello, 

 

Something is amiss with my account. I'm a long time drop box user, but today when I logged it, the account looked very different. There was a message at the top saying that my business account (which I never signed up for) stopped syncing 11 months ago and to contact the administrator. 

 

The administrator is listed as someone I shared a folder with awhile ago. She should NOT be the administrator. Because of this, I am unable to make any changes to the account. 

 

Furthermore, I've been using dropbox for years and have plenty of information stored there. Most of it is not there now. 

 

Would you please help me resolve this issue? Thank you.

Hi @brandyf, I'm sorry to hear about the situation!

 

From what you mentioned, it sounds like this account was part of a Business trial which expired, which would suggest that you're part of a free team. 

 

In this case, as a member of the team you can leave and revert back to your personal account. You can find out more about this here.

 

Since you're also missing a lot of information, is it possible that this might be a different account? As this account has been in this state for 11 months, you wouldn't have been able to sync any data in this time.

 

When was the last time that you accessed and used your Dropbox account?

 

Let me know and we can go from there!

thank you. i can see more of the infomation now. the biggest issue is that DFM Deborah Maher is the admin. She SHOULD NOT be an admin. This is an account I set up several years ago. I did share a folder with her last year but she was never granted admin rights. I need those rights restored to my name. I did not a start a trial of anything. This account has been a free personal account the entire time. Please advise

Thanks for getting back to me here @brandyf!

 

It may be that they actually sent you an invitation to join the team instead of sharing the folder with you directly.

 

You would have had to go through the process of joining the team though for this to occur and confirm that you would merge your account with the team.

 

However, as I mentioned above you can just leave this free team now and this will revert you back to a personal account. You can find all the relevant info for this from here.
