Create space usage chart report to review whole Dropbox storage

Helpful | Level 6

Will be good to have in web interface the space usage report, that display and visualize space usage for whole Dropbox files in account, like https://windirstat.net/ or https://github.com/shundhammer/qdirstat desktop apps, with additional info about file owners and sharing.

This need to understand which files spend the space - my files or no my own files, but shared from other users that I can unsare to free-up space.

You can get something similar, just not quite as detailed, at www.dropbox.com/account.

That displays your usage and shared usage.

Just a thought: QDirStat (and also my old KDirStat) can read their information from "cache files" that can be generated by the "qdirstat-cache-writer" Perl script that comes with the program. The file format is well documented and simple. So, if anybody writes an equivalent for that to run on a DropBox folder, you can simply use QDirStat to view the data. It doesn't need to be written in Perl; JavaScript or anything else will do just as well.

This feature was intended for servers that don't have any desktop infrastructure, but it should also work well with a cloud-based service such as DropBox.

Kind regards
