DMARC - Verification Email

New member | Level 1

Hi Folks.

One of my clients is having issues to receive the verification email from Dropbox.

I've checked the SMTP logs and it's been reject by the DMARC setting. See the log below

[2015.03.13] 09:27:37 [54.240.10.25][24899984] rsp: 550 Message rejected due to senders DMARC policy

[2015.03.13] 09:27:37 [54.240.10.25][24899984] DMARC policy violated due to DKIM domain ("amazonses.com") not belonging to the same parent domain as the from address field domain ("dropbox.com").
[2015.03.13] 09:27:37 [54.240.10.25][24899984] Data transfer succeeded but message rejected by DMARC

The message is being send by amazonses.com and DMARC is looking for the dropbox.com

How should I proceed now ?

Thank you in advance.

Hey Leonardo,

Can you whitelist emails coming from amazonses.com and dropbox.com?

This would enable your client to receive the verification email.

We do not whitelist anything on our servers, we expect professional companies such as Dropbox etc. to have their records and mail servers properly setup. So can you please fix your DMARC policy so mail can properly deliver? Asking people to whitelist just bandaids the issue with your DMARC policy. Like calling a plumber for a leaking pipe and instead of fixing it, they just tell you to put bubble gum and tape on it.

Same issue here. Whitelisting is definitely not something we want to do. I would expect dropbox to not spoof their own emails...

Emailed them, yeah, that was useless. I got some BS response.

Hi Leonardo!

You have to write in from the same email address than the one you use to log in on your Dropbox account.
Otherwise the system can't know that you're a paying customer.

I can only assume that nothing has been done by Dropbox about this issue as mails are still being rejected by my mail server. There is nothing difficult about this, update your DMARC records like all the other ‘professional’ companies out there.

We also do not whitelist; we expect companies like dropbox to actually have proper MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records set up, just like we do ourselves.

Hi Patrick and Evan!

You need to whitelist emails coming from amazonses to receive Dropbox emails.

If you can't whitelist it, then I'm afraid you won't be able to receive our emails.
I'll pass this issue to the product team, but I can't give you any timeline or priorisation for this issue.
Have a great day!
