Deleted data will not disappear

I keep gettig as error that I have too much in my drop box  folder. In fact it says that I have 17gigs in my drop box file. I have nowhere near that much data in my folder. I've added my folder up and I barely have 2 gigs. What's going on?

At first, please note that you can check out how much space you have available, as well as how much is being used up by regular/shared content from your Plan tab
If you find that you have much less than what is being reported to you, could it be that it’s referring to a different account?
Please remember that each Dropbox account is associated with one email address and you can find which it’s connected to by:
If you’re still having trouble with this, could you please send me a screenshot (without any personal info) of the message and the discrepancy that you see so as to have a better visual?
