Deleting drop box files from my computer

Deleting drop box files from my computer

Some of my dropbox files are downloading on my computer and I'm getting the warning on my computer that I'm running out of space. I want to delete the files from my hard drive but keep them in my dropbox account but it's saying I don't have permission to delete. How do I resolve this?

You need to unlink your Dropbox from your computer. Go here: https://www.dropbox.com/account/security

and find your computer and click on the X on the far right-hand side.  That will unlink your computer.  Then you can quit the Dropbox Client.  Thus the files (if they are fully uploaded to Dropbox Servers (Cloud)) are safe, then you can do whatever you want with files on the computer.

However, consider using a feature called "Selective Sync"  which is perfect for what you need.  More info is here: https://www.dropbox.com/help/syncing-uploads/selective-sync-desktop

This might be the best way for you.

Your files are stored in a Dropbox folder, typically located within your user profile, /Users/[yourname]/Dropbox, unless you had moved it to a different location.
