Dropbox Family - billing period

Dropbox Family - billing period

I'm very interested in your new offer Dropbox Family (it's finally there! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:). But it seems like I can't upgrade withtout being overcharged?

I currently pay annually for two Dropbox Plus accounts, sharing majority of the content between them. It is a perfect case for Dropbox Family, where I will be able to include even more users, but how do I merge paid accounts? I can't cancel and get the refund on the second account until the end of billing period (March in my case), and when I upgrade the main one, I'll be charged extra immidiately.

Am I missing something?

Hi @tobiasz, thanks for taking the time to message us!

When you upgrade to a Family plan, as the manager of the plan, you'll automatically receive a prorated refund for the remainder of your Plus plan.

The same would also apply if you invite other members with paid personal accounts to join (and they accept) the Family plan.

If you need any more details, feel free to message back!

OK, if I invite my wife, who currently has a separate Plus account, to join my Family Plan, what happens to her files when she accepts the invitation?  Are our files automatically merged?    or exactly what happens?  Our goal in merging is to be able to share files in a Vault.  Paying 2 * 120 = $240 for a total of 4 TB between us versus $204 for only 2 TB and maybe the ability to share encrypted files in the Vault.  I don't think that math is very favorable.  I think I would be better off using another service (Last Pass) for sharing encrypted files and keep the 4 TB total storage.  Am I missing some benefit?

Hey @Gary M.31, thanks for commenting on this.

The accounts and the files of the Family members stay separate, so everyone in the Family has their own, but they can share files with each other using the Family Room folder

If you have billing questions, you can also contact our Sales team.

Let me know if you need anything else!

My wife and I both have individual accounts.  We'd like to merge our two accounts, plus add 2 accounts for our children.  How do I take the plunge?

Hey @ASK-SD, I hope you're doing well!

Either you, or your wife, would need to upgrade to the Family plan.

You should then be able to invite the rest of the accounts to join.

How about you give this a go, and keep me posted?
