Dropbox is trying to cheat me - it's saying that I'm using way more space than I actually am

New member | Level 2

I have a free account with 2.38 GB of storage which I have maintained for about 8 years. Dropbox has been telling me I am using 2.4GB and should upgrade right away. I deleted 75% of my files in my Dropbox account. Mirroring these files in my computer I find I am at less than 1 GB of file size. Dropbox still says I am using 2.4 GB and should upgrade immediately. I eliminated 6 video files running from 15 megs to 29 megs each, that alone should have dropped me below my limit. Then I eliminated about 350 other files. Still Dropbox says I am using the exact same amount of files space- 2.4 GB. By the way, I do not use the Share feature and have 0% of files in Share. Interesting file voodoo, Dropbox. Please stop the strong arm treatment.

Hey @MrBattle, let's see what we can find on this together.

To make sure that we cover as much initial ground as possible, could you let me know as if you've signed in on the same Dropbox account on both the website and the desktop app?

You can check this by going to:

  • Website - your General tab in your Settings.
  • Desktop app - Dropbox icon > avatar icon > Preferences > Account tab.

Let me know what you find, cheers!
