Dropbox moved my Individual Plus account to a client's Business account issue?

Explorer | Level 3

I am a freelancer who purchased an individual Plus account that houses a huge amout of client folders for a variety of projects.

I recently was added to a new client's trial of their new Business DropBox account as a team member for one project. Upon being added, DropBox pulled ALL of my other client folders and everything over to my new clients biz account. I now had no Plus account as it dissappeared and it looked like all my other client files are now on their account (which was to have stayed separate)! Looks like they are paying for this, too?!?

I went back and forth several times with the Help Desk and they told me if I were removed from the Business DB account, that my individual Plus account would be retained. I was just deleted from my new client and EVERYTHING IS GONE. I don't have ANYTHING. No individual Plus account, no nothing. DB deleted everything I own in my own paid account! I can't even log in as they say my account is deleted. HELP!

Of course you can't talk to any human about this.

1. How can I get my individual Plus account back (separate from them) with all my old files?

2. Assuming I can get all my old other client files back on my individual Plus account, can I just be added as an outside link to my new client's folder to access their content (without being a team member)??

Anyone, please help! I'm extremely frustrated as my entire professional work is on that individual Plus account!

Many thanks!

They just deleted me from their team member

Hi there @MercedesL, thanks for checking in with us and sorry to hear about the frustration this experience has caused.

To gain access to the Dropbox account that was part of the team and contained all your files, you'll have to ask the admin to recover the deleted account.

From there, since you don't want to be a part of the team, instead of deleting your account, they'll have to convert you to an individual account.

Once they do this, you won't be a part of the team and you'll be able to upgrade to a Plus subscription like before.

If they want to add you to any folders in the team, they can check out more info on how to do so in this article

Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!

Hi there,

OK, they said they restored my account but he doesn't know if I have to accept an invite. I haven't gotten anything yet and my email address I've used to log in now doesn't say this account doesn't exist, it says that my password or email isn't recognized. I tried to reset my password and nothing is now coming to my email to try and reset so I can see if I can log in........

It's like it doesn't even recognize the email address I used for my individual Plus account before....

Lusil, please help! The client tried to add me back on and convert me. This is what he says:

"Hi Mercedes, sorry I was not able to convert your account into an individual, I'll let you know tomorrow first time in the morning. I were able to download your backup but, I'm afraid that there are lots of empty folders, some other do have pictures and .pdf files."

So, DropBox has effectively destroyed ALL my folders. What was a perfectly good folder system for ALL of my other 40 + clients over the last few years and I have access to NOTHING and can't even log in. DropBox won't even acknowledge my email address I used for paying for this service!!

I HAVE TO HAVE THIS SOLVED BEFORE TOMORROW MORNING. I will not have access to internet and have to have this resolved for access for my company!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop and, once again, I'm sorry to hear about the frustration this has caused, @MercedesL

I found the ticket that you have with a member of my team and have made sure to pass your comments from here to them.

Since this requires account-specific info from this point on, I'd recommend continuing with them - rest assured, they'll do their best to assist you.

If there's anything else in the meantime that I can help with, don't hesitate to give me a shout. Cheers!
