Dropbox online storage different than desktop

Dropbox online storage different than desktop

New member | Level 2

I'm downgrading back to the basic plan, and so I cleared out all big files, shared folders, etc, and permantely deleted them online.

BUT the online storage still says I'm using 24 GB, while my desktop version says I'm only using 1GB.

What gives? How do I find and delete these giant files ONLINE so that I'm back under the free plan? (8GB for me). SOOO ANNOYING.

Thanks for the screenshot @mdlandis.

Can you please forward me a screenshot of the app's exact status too so I can have a further look?

Also, do you happen to use selective sync on any of your folders on this specific computer?

Could you maybe reboot your computer and let me know if you're still noticing this?

Thanks in advance!

Hey there @mdlandis - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

My first guess in this case is that you have shared folders taking up space from your account and/or selectively unsynced folders on the computer you're looking at.

Could you take a look at your account's plan tab and let me know what it reports at the moment?  https://www.dropbox.com/account/plan

On a side note, is the affected computer's desktop app showing 'Up to date' or still syncing? Could you forward me its exact status?

Any additional information will be much appreciated!

Hey Walter,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I did unshare all shared folders and then deleted them when they synced back to my drive. Here's a pick of my current tab:

The status of my desktop app computer is "up to date", showing only 1.4 GB, pictured below:

Thoughts?

OMG. I think you solved it.

I checked my Sync folders on the desktop and (1) folder wasn't synced.

I then went to the online app and found that folder—IT HAS THE GIANT FILES. (3) zip file that were holding the phantom space I couldn't find.

Thanks so much - you rock!
