Free account move to a paid personal account

hiosilva

I have a free account with earned space of 21 GB.  I am looking to upgrade to a paid personal account.  Will I lose the current account size if I chose to return to a free account only in the future?

I am trying to decide if I need to have a second account instead of upgrading my current free account.  Thanks

Hi @hiosilva - welcome to the Dropbox Family and happy 2020!

To directly cut to the chase now, note that if you upgrade your current account you won't be losing any of your additional space. On the contrary actually, the space you've earned through referrals will be doubled as those are 500 MB for the free, Basic plan and 1 GB when on the Plus or Professional plan.

This means that you if you decide to (upgrade and) downgrade your account at some point, the space you've earned from referrals will be halved (back to what it was prior to the upgrade).

I hope this makes sense and I'm always around if you have any additional questions.
