How can I free up quota on my account and leave shared folders?

Explorer | Level 3

what is the easiest way to clear up space and get leave shared folders?

is selective sync the way to do this?

throughout the year i work on different projects with different teams. i end up with lots of projects where i am the owner of the project or get get added to the shared folder.

My dropbox account has been downgraded to the basic plan since my work has come to a halt.

i would like to back up these files just in case someone comes back to me later looking for something but would like to make sure i dont delete from someone elses dropbox account.

Please let me know the steps to take to clear up storage space in dropbox and leave shared folders.

Hi @ecuad23; welcome to our Community!

First things first, note that you can view your current quota usage on your account's plan tab to see the complete breakdown between your regular files and your shared ones.

Generally speaking now, when your Dropbox account is over quota then only syncing stops. Nothing will be removed and syncing will resume when you bring your account under quota again.

To get your account under quota you can do any of the following:

  1. Upgrade your account: you can check out www.dropbox.com/plans for more information.
  2. Increase your quota using referrals bonuses or other promotions.
  3. Leave any shared folders or Spaces that put you over quota.
  4. Move files that don't need to sync out of your Dropbox folder.

I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any follow up questions!
