How can I unlink a device and protect my Dropbox account?

New member | Level 2

Hi Guys,

i have opened new Gmail account, logged in to Dropbox, installed in 2 laptops the program/2 designers, they are both in sync - updated to pro dropbox account

on the other hand, i have my personal email account and another pro dropbox account

we have a Shared Folder between 2 accounts - where we share files and collaborate...

Now the Question: if I will disable in one of the designer's laptop Dropbox account so that she won't be able to log in again with the email or access the files again. what to do?

I can change the Gmail pass - that is the first step.

what other things I can do

thanks,

Bedros

Hi there @PedrRocK, welcome to the Community!

In order to ensure someone cannot access your Dropbox account, what you can do is reset the password to it.

However, if they have access to the email inbox associated with the account they will be able to also reset it again on their end so make sure only you have access to your emails.

Note, uninstalling the Dropbox desktop app or unlinking an account from a computer does not inherently mean the user cannot log in on the website again - so changing the password is key.

Let me know if I can help with anything else - thanks!

hi @Celeste

thanks,

however, that account I have logged in using Gmail and not registered directly via dropbox.

if I change only the Password of Gmail do you think will resolve it?

thanks,

Thanks for getting back to me @PedrRocK!

I'm afraid I can only safely advise on Dropbox account issues so would not be able to guide you in regards to your Gmail account settings.

However, a Dropbox account can be set up using a Gmail email address, so I would recommend you attempt to log in to the account on the Dropbox website to review it.

Do also review which email address is on the Dropbox account in question with the steps provided here, so that you can locate which account is associated with which email.

Thanks!

Indeed, @PedrRocK!

You can unlink connected devices via the Security tab of your account settings on the website.

When you do this you will also be given the option to remote wipe the device the next time it comes online.

Do note, though, that if the end user has the password to the account they will be able to relink it again, unless you change the password as well.

Keep me posted on how you get on!
