does the person receiving files i sent need to have enough space in their dropbox in order for them to receive?

Yes, if you Share a folder or file with another Dropbox user, that will require enough space in their account or it will not allow them to “accept” the share and add it to their Files.

Another option, depending on your needs, is to create a link to the folder or file and send them that link directly.
