I accidentally created a Dropbox Business trial & I'd like to go back to my personal plan.

I accidentally created a Dropbox Business trial & I'd like to go back to my personal plan.

I somehow ended up with a Business Team site on Dropbox. I'm a simple guy, I'm not sure what I've done but I just want to go back to a personal dropbox account. How do I un-do this trial upgrade I did, I can't find a way to cancel and just go back to my basic dropbox.

Hey @demayp, you should be able to cancel your trial following the steps outlined on this resource, though let me quickly repeat below for convenience’ sake.
 
  1. Navigate on your Billing tab on the admin console & click Manage plan
  1. Click on Cancel your plan (Note: It should be towards the end of the page) & then follow the instructions in the next pages to downgrade your account.
 
Please let me know of you get on with these steps or in case you need assistance in any way & I’ll make sure to check back with you asap. I hope you have a wonderful day/ rest of your day ahead until we talk again!

Cancel free trial

I signed up for the free trial but don't think is anything that I can/willuse. Can you cancel my free trial and not charge me after the 30 days?

Hi,

Also I was added to the business plan without asking. I am paying about 10/month and want to keep it that way. Receiving a message my "trial" period would end crashed my trust in Dropbox (use it over 5 years) in one hour. Well done Dropbox people!

But it doesn't end. Even trying to apply the method mentioned above doesn't work. Every attempt to go on dropbox will lead me to 'filling in my team', which I don't want. I even cannot reach my online files anymore.

So what to do? It's the worst communication I've ever seen to be honest and am looking into alternatives.

Hey Wim (@WimWinters09), sorry to hear that you’re feeling this way & about any frustration this may have caused you; rest assured I’m here to help you as much as I can on this subscription-related matter. 
 
Now I’m interested in how you were added to the Business plan Wim. Did someone invite you to their Dropbox Business team or did you create a Dropbox Business trial as the OP had initially described? If the former scenario applies, then you’ll have to discuss it with your admin, so that they remove you from the team. On the other hand, if the latter is happening & you’ve tried following the steps outlined here to cancel the upgrade (where you mentioned that you’re getting an error messages on your end), I could further advise on how to proceed. Would you mind attaching a screenshot of what you’re seeing in your next post (omitting personal info), so as to get a better idea of what’s happening? 
 
Once I have a bit more info, I’ll try to advise accordingly. Thanks in advance for your time & efforts; I’ll be awaiting your next message on this conversation!

Hi Jane, 

thanks for your reply.

I was installing dropbox on a new pc, assuming the log in page might have changed, so unknowingly signing up (I guess, since this wasn't communicated at all) for the trial version of DB Business.

Now, I have just took a deep breath, signed in for the question on team members, skipped most, and there I finally found the cancel trial button you've mentioned.

But while dropbox changed online apperently back to 'normal', on my PC I keep getting an error messag that 'dropbox is not able to synchronize, since some files are used in windows explorer. Which is not the case, the message remains even after rebooting my computer.

Thanks a lot for getting back in touch with me here with these additional details Wim (@WimWinters09), let me follow-up from where you’ve left off on your end! 
 
From what I gather from your last update, the downgrade has completed successfully & you’d just have to make sure that this is reflected locally on your pc as well. If I were in your shoes, I’d unlink once & relink as my next troubleshooting step & see if this amends the behavior. From there, can you have a look at your syncing icons after relinking /? Do they appear as expected?

Hi Jane,

thank you for replying.

I have 2PC's and 1 Laptop. 2 of the pc's did return to the original setting. My main PC did not. I had to uninstall dropbox, remove the db folder and install it all again. DB is now downloading it all again.

I'm sure it will work now, but I must say, I spent at least 10 hours fixing something I did not ask for. You should announce much more clearly that one is signing up for a business trial instead of just installing his personal dropbox account. It's way too pushy the way you're (kind of) misleading people.

Anyway, thank you for your time. I guess I will be fine.
