I think my account was deleted because I can't access it

Explorer | Level 3

I need help recovering a deleted dropbox account. The following has happened. In my mail there is a dot between the first and last name. However, many colleagues did not use the dot and I ended up with two dropbox accounts that both contain important information and documents. I used both of them regularly (it was quite confusing but it was working). Today I tried to connect to the one without the dot and I couldn't. I have no idea how it got deleted.  It happened in the last 3 days. Please help.

Re: Deleted Account

Hi there @mkosmopo, thanks for reaching out to us about this.

Just to make sure I have a better understanding of your concern, could you clarify if you're getting any error messages when you try to sign in to your account?

Did you receive any emails regarding any deletions or changes made by any chance?

Any additional info would be very helpful. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your response! I try to reset my password but when I type my address, I don't receive any mail back. I have also tried to use one of the links for the files my colleagues had shared with me. It either drives me back to the dotted account (which doesn't contain of course all my other files) or pops out an error. I suspect that an attempt was made to merge the two accounts but unofortunately not everything seems to have survived from that...

Thanks for getting back to me, @mkosmopo

Have you checked your spam folder by any chance? How about adding the email address no-reply@dropbox.com to your address book?

Could you also send me a screenshot (without any personal info) of the error message that comes up when you try to access your account?

Keep me posted!

This is what happens now. I have attached two screenshots. I have already checked my spams...

Thanks for getting back to me, @mkosmopo

Although I removed the attached screenshots for security purposes (as personal information was included in them), I did notice that when you were prmoted to add the shared folder, you weren't signed in.

You've mentioned though that when you've tried to sign in, you get an error. Could you please clarify what the error message said?

Looking forward to hearing back from you!

Thank you very much! The first time I tried to open one folder shared to this account since I spotted the issue, I got an error that the item does not exist (Error 404). Afterwards, when I click on them I receive an invitation to open a new account as you saw in the screenshots

If you got a 404 error when clicking on a shared link, you can check this article out which provides some additional info on the matter.

As for the prompt, I saw from your screenshot that when you clicked on the invitation to join the shared folder, it redirected you to add it. Although it does ask you to sign up below in a blue box, there's also an option to "Sign in" on the top right corner.

Could you click that option, instead, fill in the relevant credentials, and let me know how it goes? Thanks!
