I think my email didn't change when I tried to. What can I do?

New member | Level 2

I had my work email attached to my dropbox account because I owned the company. When I sold the company, I went in and changed my email to my personal email on my account. However, my accountant is doing my taxes and the notification email stating that he has made changes to my tax files shared on dropbox keep going to the old work email address which I still see but also goes to new owner of my company. I have looked in notifications and settings and all and the old email is not anywhere there and only shows my personal email. How do I change this setting so my tax docs are not going to this email.  Thank you so much for any help.

Is this in a shared folder? If so check that the other person isnt a member of it and if so remove them from it:

I have closed the company this dropbox is adminstrated, I would like to save some of the material and therefore tried to change the email of my present company. The server inform me that the email I am using is taken? this may be because my company is allied to a international network which is now filling in material to this dropbox. I did also try my personal email but even that was taken. I may have old personal account with photos etc. ?? but now it seems confusing how to organize all my files? Is there a portal where I could check the dropbox services I am involved? Can I open a new account to my present company and move the files I want in the new datbase and then end the old one?

Dropboxer

Hello there @Heikki1, welcome to the Community!

Now, if you are getting an error that the email address you are trying to use is taken this means you already have a Dropbox account with those credentials.

If you still have access to each of the email addresses directly, though, I would recommend you reset your Dropbox password for each one so that you can access and review them.

Alternatively, you can open a new ticket with us from each email address you want to investigate, and we can review whether it is associated with an account or not.

To merge the contents of multiple accounts into one, please see the steps provided here

Also, you can delete an unwanted account and this will free-up the email associated so that you can use it on a new one. Make sure to save any content from the old account if you do this - as once an account is deleted its content cannot be restored.

Let me know if this helps!
