I want to update the email on my account but the new email is "already taken". What can I do?

New member | Level 2

I shared a file this evening and saw that somehow my "owner" email address was an old aol address I no longer use. I went to my account and attempted to change the email to the one I prefer and it wouldn't allow me, saying that email is already taken. It appears that I have two email addresses listed with dropbox, and I'd like to remove one

Hi @malinvernimusic, thanks for messaging the Community!

If you’re getting this message, then it means that the email address already exists in the Dropbox system.

You can try to login to that account by resetting the password for the Dropbox account with that AOL address.

If there’s any files on that account that you need, you can download them. Afterwards, you can choose to delete the account if you don't want it any more. This will free up the email, allowing you to change your current Dropbox account to that address.

Hope this helps to clarify matters!
