Incorrect Dropbox Space Usage

If I use the check the size of all of the files in my dropbox folder using my Mac's command-I info, it shows I have ~ 1.2 GB of space usage. I confirmed this by looking at the various files. In contrast, the dropbox app shows that I am using more than 6 GB of filespace. Any ideas why dropbox gets this wrong and how to fix this issue?

Do you have an iphoto library in your Dropbox folder per chance?

Any folders removed using Selective Sync?

No iphoto folders and I'm not using Selective sync. Not sure how to trouble shoot. I could just remove all the files from dropbox. Is there then an option to 'reformat' your allotted space, or to see any remaining files?

This is my exact situation. 580MB in my DropBox folder on PC and 1,6 GB Used when looking at the Dropbox site.
And this is not correct, in my opinion.

Any solution found in the mean time?

I'm also having the same issue: WinDirStat shows Dropbox space usage 5.6GB and Dropbox app/web UI says 35.8GB space usage.

It looks like Dropbox is wasting (?) 30GB of space. That's quite a lot.

Same here.  4.7GB on the PC, 10.6Gb in the cloud.  Nothing in my .dropbox.cache on the local machine.  Is there a similar folder in the cloud that I can't see via the web browser?

Okay, silly me.  Forget to check the .trash folder.  Emptied it and all is well.

Tony B. - Where is the .Trash folder?

I am in the same boat. Locally, the files in a folder I have are no more than 1GB. Dropbox shows it as 6 GB.

Hi Victor A.  I'm using encfs, the .trash folder appeared in the mounted drive.
