Is the bandwith limit (20 GB per day) strict?

Is the bandwith limit (20 GB per day) strict?

Hello.

I used a shared link and downloaded some files over 20 GB in a day.

However, no restrriction appeared.

According to thisDropbox (basic) accounts have the limit: 20 GB per day.

So, I think the limit is not strict. Is this correct?

Hi @TommyBel

Thanks for experimenting with bandwidth limits and sharing that.

The Dropbox bandwidth limit is indeed strict. We have no way of checking the actual traffic and provide details on our end as support, but I can tell you there is an automatic system that tracks traffic and blocks sharing when the limits have been reached.

Are you sure you have exceeded your bandwidth limits indeed? How did you measure traffic?

If you are indeed over the bandwidth limit and your sharing is still functional... you are a lucky user I guess. :gift: :grinning:

Let me know more about how you tested the traffic.

Looking forward to your response!

Was it your own shared link? Were you logged in at the time? The limit is a strict limit, but likely doesn't apply for files you download from your own account.

If it wasn't your link, the the link owner likely has a paid account where the limit is 200 GB per day.

This is the comment I really want to here. (Actually, I wanted to know whether or not the bandwidth limit is strict because of a security research.)

Are you sure you have excited your bandwidth limits indeed? How did you measure traffic?

I downloaded the same file (1 GB) over 20 times via the shared link (not log in). So, the trafic should be over 20 GB...

Yes, I created the shared link, but I wouldn't have been logged in at the DL moment (or logged in as another account...).

It seems that the limit is strict. So, I will try it again according to your comment. Many thanks.
