My son has accidentally set up a Dropbox Business trial account for his remote college work.
We need to move him to a personal account before his trial ends, using the same email address, but without losing his work.
How do we do this, please?

In this case, you (your son in this case) will just need to downgrade the account by cancelling the trial following the steps outlined in this Help Center article:
