My new credit card was charged for a Dropbox subscription. Why & what should I do?

My new credit card was charged for a Dropbox subscription. Why & what should I do?

New member | Level 2

I have not signed into my dropbox account in over a year. Yet a bank card that I have only had for less than 2 weeks is on file in my dropbox account. How did dropbox get my bank card number. More than that, why am I asking the 'community' a question when it should be directed to dropbox staff.

Great question! Why haven't you contacted Support?

How did dropbox get my bank card number.

The only way they could have got it is if you (or someone with access to it) provided it. If you didn't provide it, then you should be contacting your bank because someone did provide. There's no other way for Dropbox to get your payment information. It certainly cannot do it on its own.

Hey @royalparrot, as we can only look into payment-specific inquiries through our Official Support channel (i.e. we’ll need sensitive details that can’t be accessed on our Community), I located your open support request & I've sent you a brief message.

Whenever you find some time, please check your inbox for my message & I’ll make sure to promptly follow-up with you soon. Thanks!

Nothing for Dropbox to explain. If you had a card on file from a previous purchase, and that card has changed either because it has a new expiration or has been replaced, your bank can automatically update subscriptions where the card was already in use.
