You'll likely need access to the email address in order to receive the reset information. Perhaps you can contact the email provider and request access to the email address again, even temporarily, to receive the reset information.
I have exactly the same problem. But, in addition, I have two Dropbox accounts. I want to cancel the one I do not, and cannot, use due to the email address being defunct and the password having expired. I can't change the password because the email no longer functions. Catch-22. The suggestion to go back to the original ISP and reactivate the old account just to get one email makes no financial sense. The system should have or develop a way to verify a user's security information as a back pathway to edit both the email address and the password. It's not rocket science, and it is not particularly engaging customer service. My solution is just to ignore the old account, but it is aesthetically displeasing to have unnecessarily cluttered the internet space.
