People from my contacts list received a strange Dropbox link from me that I didn't send.

People from my contacts list received a strange Dropbox link from me that I didn't send.

I'm getting messages from people on my contact list saying that I have sent a message to them to download a strange Dropbox link. I have not sent such a message. How can I re-secure my account? How would they get my contact list off of Dropbox?

Hi there @AJR-1, I'm sorry to hear about the situation!

 

I'm wondering if this is perhaps a phishing attempt, could you please ask the recipients of this email exactly what email address this was sent from? To see the exact email, they may need to click on the sender for more info.

 

If it's not from one of our official domains, then it could be a security issue with a different source such as your email.

 

I can also suggest checking your security page here to check for any unidentified connected devices or login sessions. If you see any entries there that seem suspicious, I'd suggest unlinking them with the "X" to the right of the entry.

 

You can also change the password for your Dropbox account too just to be on the safe side.

 

Let me know what you find and we can go from there!
