Permanently delete files using the deleted files page on dropbox.com

Permanently delete files using the deleted files page on dropbox.com

The above directions say to Click the … (ellipsis) icon.

I can't find the icon. See screenshot.

I don't want to go through every folder, show deleted files, then delete them. That would take forever. Why can't I just delete straight from the deleted files page?

What am I not seeing? Thank you.

The instructions are slightly wrong it seems.

You need to click on the file/event (i.e. 2018-02-16) and then select 'Permanently Delete'.

I have about 600 files in my delete folder how do I empty the delete folder?

No way I´m going to permantly delete each and every file., it would take forever.

Select each item using the check boxes to the left, then click Permanently Delete on the right side of the page, below the Restore button.

I share your frustration. The need to check each file is time consuming and unnecessary. Dropbox is a mature product that can improve the user experience by offering a default choice (choose each or empty all files/folders).

Is someone from Dropbox monitoring these forums? It's an absolute nonsense to not provide an option for "empty trash bin", or "delete all"... I looked at an official article from help.dropbox.com and put a similar comment and request there.

Hey there, @llagos, welcome to our community.

We do indeed monitor all sections and posts here, and we gather all feedback and suggestions for our various teams. We’re happy to forward your comments to our Web team on your behalf.

Now, what you can do to select multiple items in the Deleted files page is to:

  1. Select a file/folder by placing a check-mark in the box to the left of the file name.

  2. Scroll down as far as you’d like, and check another file while holding down the Shift key on your keyboard.

  3. This will select all files in between.

  4. Then, click on “Permanently delete” on the right side of the page.

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Hey again, @llagos.

One more thing to keep in mind, is that items that are in your Deleted files do not take up space in your account. So, deleting these files permanently will not result in any space being freed up.

Thanks!
