Adding Dropbox to new mac and transferred data etc from old mac. When I sign in it sends a security code to my phone which when entered to Dropbox is 'invalid'. Not sure what is going on having tried several times...

Are the SMS codes delayed in arriving to your mobile device? Or do you receive them pretty quickly?
Also, are you able to use the SMS code to sign in via the website, for example, without the same error?
