Smart sync on, Dropbox still full

Explorer | Level 3

I recently began to share a folder with a client – lots of files. I downloaded the app and selected smart sync. I also cleared out any of my own files. I am getting messages that my Dropbox is full. Can someone help, as I need to sort this.

Hi @lisacarrington, thanks for posting on the Community!

Could you clarify if you're referring to Smart Sync, which is only available on paid plans, or selective sync, which is available on all plans?

If you joined a shared folder ,then the files in that folder would still take up quota on your account, and either Smart Sync or selective sync wouldn't be able to prevent the account from going overquota.

Keep me posted!

Hi Jay, thanks for helping. I've checked my plan, it's Dropbox basic. I've also checked that yes the majority of the storage is taken up by the shared folder.

When I check setting – the 'Smart Sync Update for Mac' is switched on.
(Smart word used in the language of the setting under Personal Account Settings, as opposed to Selective)

Is there a way to still have all this in the cloud and not my Mac HD?

The text says: With this update, online-only files will no longer appear to take up hard drive space

Or do I need to pay to upgrade? Any deal you can offer would be great.

If you want to save space on your machine, if you're still on the Basic plan, it would still show that the Dropbox account is full, since this info is taken from the site directly.

Smart Sync can make files online-only by right clicking them in Explorer/Finder on your machine and going to Smart Sync > Online-only, and this is available on paid plans.

Selective sync is available to all users, and prevents entire folders from syncing to your computer, and deleting those local copies.

Let me know if you need any further info!
