Temporary remove dropbox from my computer - keep online with free account

New member | Level 2

For a repair on my laptop I want to temporary remove my Dropbox folder from my laptop and put it back when I receive my laptop after repairs.
How can I temporary remove my Dropbox folder on my laptop, but continue to work on them when I log in with another device (don't want to remove or delete the folders)

Yes, your content will sync and be available on your Dropbox folder, but please rememberto sign in with the same email address associated with your Dropbox account.

Spoiler
You can check which email address is connected by navigating to the website and:
  1. Sign in.
  2. Navigate to your avatar on the top right cornet of your screen.
  3. Select Settings on the drop-down menu.
  4. You should see your email address under the General tab.
Hope this helped!

[EDIT]

The Dropbox icon should be next to your desktop's clock, and you should see the gear  once you click on the Dropbox icon.

Update: found it!

Dear @Lusil ,

I read the following:

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar.
  2. Click the gear icon and select Preferences..

Where can I find the "menu bar" and "gear icon" these terms are not familiar to me on Mac.

Thank you!
Found the way to uninstall Dropbox in the meantime.

Thanks for your help!

For future use: Can I protect my Dropbox folder on my laptop with a password?
When I read the question in the Helpcentre I only see what to do when the device is stolen or after something has happened, but I would like to know if there is a way to prevent people using / seeing my Dropbox folders on my laptop when they use it for presentations or writing documents.

Thanks
Vera

Dropboxer
In general, the Dropbox folder on your computer is just like any other folder on your computer.

For this reason, although there isn’t an option currently that allows you to add a password to your Dropbox folder, you can use the security options built-in to the OS to protect it, instead.

Don’t hesitate to get back to me if you have any other queries, Vera!
