I have been using dropbox basic plan more than 10 years and over 10 devices are connected. The storage space is 20GB thanks to refer program.
Recently, one of my main PC's hard drive has some issues, and unfortunately I should relink the dropbox folder and as you know, you need to remove already connected devices due to the limitation of 3.
So this is my idea. Upgrade to trial plus and connect all deviced that I want and quit plus.
My questions are
1. Will all connected devices be connected after downgrading to basic?
2. Will I keep my current 20GB storaged after downgrading to basic?
1) they will stay connected BUT you will not be able to add any more - so if one gets disconnected by mistake etc. you cannot re-add it.
2) you will probably have less as referral space doubles while you are a paying user.

Thanks, Mark!
I love the no. 1 solution. However, it is pretty sad if I lose 20gb which I have made during last 10 years after downgrading to basck from plus.
Hmm.
Did you try it? I'm in the same boat, had 8 connected devices and 6 GB storage over ten years. I had to replace a hard disk in my hackintosh and now it wants me to disconnect all but three. I can't work with that.

Referral space halves when you drop from paid to free (when a paying user referral space is 1gb per user compared to 512mb when free). There is no way round that.
Also, as I said, you can keep extra devices connected that you did while paid, but, cannot add any more - even if its to replace one you remove if you are a free user.

Excuse but I did not fully understand.
I have a basic plan with 1.88 extra space. Now - for the same reason of the original author of this thread - I would like to upgrade to a paid plan, connect a 4th device and then downgrade.
What will happen to my extra-1.88 GB? Will I save them or lose half of them?
Thank you,
Spinho
@Spinho your bonus space will increase because all referrals double while you are a paid customer. They drop back down to the current levels though as soon as you stop paying.

I'm very frustrated by Dropbox's new policies. I've used it for free for years, and I'd actually be happy to pay something for this useful service. But they've priced themselves so high (with a lot more space, etc., than I need) that I'm not willing to do that. I'm looking at my free space on Google and MS as a likely alternative. And I'll probably just cobble along with the free service, and curse dropbox for not letting me use more devices.
But I'd like to suggest there may be a market for "consumers" who don't need all the bells and whistles, and just want to use dropbox as a cheap way to have the same files available on a lot of accounts, for some fee more like $30 or $50 per year.
The way we work is changing. Share and discover new ways to work smarter with Dropbox in our community.
