is possible to "format" dropox?

New member | Level 2

Hi, I have a question. All my drpbox files are around 2.5gb. I delete even the share folders from the cloud. However, Ireceived messages that 90% of my 9gb are being used. How it can be? probably best solution is to take out the files I want to keep, "format" dropbox and update them again? is this possible? how? thanks

Hey there @gaiarrido  - how are you today?

You don't need to do this at all. Just to confirm what's putting your account close to being over quota, you can view your current quota usage on the following page:

https://www.dropbox.com/account/plan

Generally speaking now, if your Dropbox account is over quota then only syncing stops. Nothing will be removed and syncing will resume when you bring your account under quota again.

To get your account under quota or clear up space you can do any of the following:

  1. Upgrade your account – check out www.dropbox.com/plans for other information.
  2. Increase your quota using referrals bonuses or other promotions.
  3. Leave any shared folders that put you over quota.
  4. Move files that don't need to sync out of your Dropbox folder.

Last but not least, if you noticed this on your computer only, note that your cache folder is automatically cleared every three days. If you need to delete sensitive files immediately, or you need to clear up some space on your hard drive, you can manually clear the cache with the steps outlined in the Help Center article below:

https://help.dropbox.com/desktop-web/cache-folder

I hope this helps to some extent and please keep me posted on your progress.

Hi Walter,

thanks so much.

I clean my shared folders and I dont think there are 6gb in the cache. So, Im afraid there are extra flders I cannot see that are occupying this extra 6gb. For me, the best solution, can be to "format" or "reset" dropbbox. Can I do it? how?

thanks

If you'd like to rebuild your database you can unlink and relink your account @gaiarrido.

Just out of curiosity, have you checked my previous suggestions? Specifically, what does your account's plan tab report about your quota usage?

In case you'd really need to move forward with unlinking and relinking, take caution of the device limit if you're currently on the free, Basic plan. For more info see below:

Let me know what you find!

Hi, maybe there are some hidden files, go to view, show, include the hidden files, and then erase them all. Hope I helped you.

Hey there @gaiarrido - I'm merely following up on this one here; were you able to resolve your concern in the end and if so, how exactly?
