Re: Access to Shared filess

Access to Shared filess

We have been successfully sharing files for five years by saving into the Dropbox folder on the desktop, but recently this changed. My colleague no longer sees what I put in Dropbox but he has a list of every file that has ever been in there! I made a fresh folder but he does not see it.  We are using the free version. Has there been a major re-organisation?

There have been no changes, no.

So two things to check - do you see the files at www.dropbox.com/home ?

Do you both see the share at www.dropbox.com/share ?

Thanks for prompt response Mark. On share, my colleague can see both folders but cannot access the second folder as it says 'not attached'. I can see the original folder in share and access the files, but the second folder is only in my desktop Dropbox folder, not in share.

Hi @Chatto

If the second folder is only in your desktop and not in the share you need to move it in to the shared folder for others to access it. OR you need to share it separately.

Thanks. I am thinking that way. We can only share if I do it through dropbox.com and log in - not if I copy or drag to the Dropbox folder on my desktop. Likewise, my colleague can only access folders that are on the web page. We worked out we can do it that way, but it is much more fiddly than the previous method.

As far as sharing individual files is concerned - I get the message that Windows cannot find that person, but I am not permitted to add the name to the list of acceptable people. The name and address is in my contacts and has been for the last 7 years, so I don't understand why he can't be found.
