Auto Backup Feature on PC - File Deletion Everywhere?

Auto Backup Feature on PC - File Deletion Everywhere?

Explorer | Level 3

I'm using Dropbox 113.3.427 on a Dell Win10 Pro workstation.  I enabled the new Backup feature and it seems to be working ok.

However - maybe I just don't get it but why is there only ONE choice when deleting files now?  The whole point for me of backing up files to Dropbox is to free up HD space on my workstation.  I can verify that the files in question are 'backed up' to Dropbox but then when I go to delete them off my workstation the only options are 'delete everywhere' or cancel.  Delete everywhere deletes the files I just uploaded to Dropbox via Backup and cancel does nothing - leaving the files in both places and not allowing me to free up local HD space.

Hi @tapatti, thanks for taking the time to message us!

The computer backup feature allows you to sync certain folders to Dropbox so there's a copy on the site.

Deleting files from either the site or your computer would delete them from all syncing locations.

If you're interested in freeing up local space, you could try moving the files into a subfolder, and using selective sync to delete that folder from your computer. If you're on a paid plan, Smart Sync could also be used to make files online-only.

If you need any more details, feel free to message back!
