Can't access dropbox files with file explorer in windows 10 using windows defender as antivirus

Explorer | Level 4

I've been using dropbox for 6 months on a windows 10 machine.  On Friday February 22, I could no longer access the files in windows file explorer.  The files are there, but when I click on them they won't open.  I can access them from other computers, the dropbox icon says the files are synced. If I uninstall dropbox, I can access the files from the folder on my computer in the users directory, but when I reinstall, the folder is not accessible.

I've disabled the windows defender security but that doesn't help.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @parksjw, thanks for joining the Community!

Could you clarify what you mean by ‘the folder is not accessible’? If you quit the Dropbox desktop application, can you access the folder? Could you forward a screenshot showing this error?

Did this happen after you started using Windows Defender? Why do you believe that was the reason this caused the issue?

Keep me posted!
