Can't delete dropbox files, and all files read-only

Hi all! 

Some weird things are happening...

I'm making new files by saving a new version of an old template file under a new name. The files always end up as read only, though! When I right click into properties the ready-only box is un-ticked, so I don't know why I can't edit. 

This resulted in me making a few extra files to see if I could work out the issue. I can't...but now I'm stuck with 3 versions of the same file (labelled 1,2 and 3) because they won't delete! Whenever I try I'm told that the file is already open so it can't be deleted. I don't have the file open anywhere, though, and neither do any of my colleagues. 

When I open files on my desktop they don't open as read-only...but I still can't delete them from Dropbox. 

Any pointers appreciated!

Hi there @CShakespeare, I'd be more than happy to help! Let's see what we can find. 

As a first step, could you let me know a bit more info, such as:

  • Are you seeing these files being locked on the website?
  • Are they in a shared folder or are individual shared files by any chance? 
  • Could you also send me a screenshot (without any personal info) of the error message?

Any additional details would be very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks for your quick reply. 

I've just gone on to the website to try delete from there and that's worked! The files are still opening as read-only on my desktop though...does that mean there's a syncing issue?

They are individual shared files.
